Some of these challenges include inability to afford medication, diagnostic services, consumables, medical equipment, transportation to hospitals, feeding etc.
RHF was founded by Seth Gyamfi and Wendy Ofori Boatemaa, a couple who work in Ghana's health sector as medical social worker and nurse respectively. As health workers they experienced firsthand the difficulties that many children from less endowed background face in getting access to medical services in the Ghana's hospitals. Some of these challenges include inability to afford medication, diagnostic services, consumables, medical equipment, transportation to hospitals, feeding etc. These challenges have led to needless loss of lives of many children whilst others are living with irreparable damage to their bodies as a result of the inability to afford some of these services. Moved with empathy and passion for these unfortunate children Seth and Wendy begun using their personal financial resources to cater for the needs of some of the children. The need to support more children was growing daily therefore they sought the support from friends and family members to assist these needy children. The support from friends and family was also inadequate so they began using their social media pages with the consent of the parents/guardians of the children to solicit for funds to help the needy children. Using social media to seek support for the needy children was very successful and led to people from all over Ghana seeking their support to care for their sick children. Initially, the support was limited to children who were seeking care at Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital in Kumasi, Ghana where Seth worked and the Okaikrom and Effiduase hospitals where Wendy worked. But as the call for help was increasing coming from all across Ghana, it became necessary that a system with better structures to be built to adequately support all those in need. Redeeming Hands Foundation was therefore formed in 2018 and registered with the Ghana Registrar General's Department and the Department of Social Welfare in 2019 as national NGO with the aim of raising funds to support sick needy children in Ghana. Since 2019 when RHF was formed more than 300 children have been supported with various amounts ranging from as little as GHC 20.00 ($4) to amounts exceeding GHC 10,000 ($2,000). Children are the future of every nation and RHF believes that the children of Ghana must not be allowed to die needlessly due to financial constraints of their parents or family. RHF is there to save the lives of less privileged children and uplift their souls.
